Announce Joint Program to Educate Children Through Computers
SYRACUSE, N.Y., Oct. 4, 2007 – Associated Products Corporation (APC) and National Education Association (NEA) today announced a partnership to introduce children to computers and emphasize learning problems, computer skills, and new technology’s role in education.
APC has donated $1 million to NEA to get them started on a program of teaching seminars all over the country in the areas of computer learning, and computer education. This “Byte of the Apple” tour contains a series of workshops for teachers and students to provide information for schools on how to use computers in their classrooms.
“APC has a strong drive to educate today’s youth which falls right in line with our Association’s goals,” said Rich Nelson, president of NEA. “NEA feels privileged to be a part of this tour, and understand that it would not have been possible without APC’s support.”
Computers for the NEA/APC sessions will be provided by the APC grant and is of no charge to the school participating. The training sessions can be adapted to individual needs. The workshop normally consists of one four-hour session for teachers only and another four-hour session for selected students, allowing student-teacher interaction.
“NEA has been proactive in getting this program up and running,” said James Sutton, president of APC. “We’re completely committed to the success of this course, and have confidence that NEA will exceed our expectations.”
“Byte of the Apple” is offered nationwide by writing to National Education Association, P.O. Box 1776, Washington DC, 00716. Should the school adopt the new computer learning program, and wish to set up a computer learning center, it will also receive complete print support in the form of workbooks, instruction manuals, and posters concerning computers and software.
